About Alzheimer’s Disease Clinical Trials
Alzheimer’s disease clinical trials are designed to evaluate if new medications have the potential to effect the various stages of Alzheimer’s disease. Medications used in clinical trials for prodromal or early stage Alzheimer’s disease trials are engineered to delay progression, or possibly reverse cognitive decline. Medications used in clinical trials of moderate stage Alzheimer’s disease are often to help with disease management and stop progression.

Study Medications
Northwest Clinical Research Center is partnering with pharmaceutical company sponsors to evaluate the effectiveness of several novel medications for Alzheimer’s disease.
We are currently enrolling clinical trials looking for volunteers with early stage Alzheimer’s dementia or volunteers who are predisposed to the illness.
Studies are also being done to evaluate if new medications may improve behavior changes in Alzheimer’s disease. These trials are enrolling patients with moderate stage dementia who may have mild to moderate memory problems.
None of this research can be done without the help of volunteers.
Symptoms of Alzheimer’s that may be seen in early stages:
- Progressive memory loss, like forgetting words and names
- Problems recognizing people
- Problems coping with new situations
- Difficulty completing tasks (complex tasks such as driving, shopping, or finances or activities of daily living such as getting dressed, bathing, toileting, or eating)
The Role of a Caregiver
For all of our studies for dementia, a study partner or caregiver is required. The role of a caregiver is vital for evaluating the study medication. They will be attending visits and communicating with study personnel to help the study team monitor symptoms such as memory impairment, functioning at home, and changes in behavior. Without research volunteers and their family and friends, it would not be possible to evaluate if these medications for Alzheimer’s dementia maintain functioning as well as the quality of life for patients and caregivers. Compensation for your time and a travel stipend are available to those who qualify and elect to participate.
